Avis Kennedy (recently retired), was the Chief of the Natural Resources Management Branch, Operations Division, in the Corps of Engineers’ Nashville District. In that capacity, she led the District's Natural Resources office and oversaw programs focused on the effective management of more than 400,000 acres of public land and water, 160 Corps recreation areas, 62 concessionaire operations and 9,000 out grants and permits. She also supervised staff who provided support to ten lakes in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Kennedy began her career with the Corps in 1978, as a Park Ranger at Cordell Hull Lake, and later at Old Hickory Lake. In 1984, she began working in the Nashville District Office as an Outdoor Recreation Planner.
In 2008, Kennedy served as the Environmental Stewardship National Business Line Manager for the Corps where she oversaw budget preparation for, and management of, natural resources on the Corps’ 11 million acres of land. She also served as a Resource Manager at Cordell Hull and J. Percy Priest Lakes, a biologist in the Planning Branch, and as Chief of the Regulatory Branch. She currently serves on the Tennessee State Natural Areas Committee.
Kennedy is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology.
