Avis Kennedy was appointed chair of the Regional Resource Stewardship Council in 2014. Previously she served as the Chief of the Natural Resources Management Branch, Operations Division, in the Corps of Engineers’ Nashville District. In that capacity, she led the District's Natural Resources office and oversaw programs focused on the effective management of more than 400,000 acres of public land and water, 160 Corps recreation areas, 62 concessionaire operations and 9,000 out grants and permits.
Kennedy began her career with the Corps in 1978, as a Park Ranger at Cordell Hull and Old Hickory lakes. In 1984, she began working in the Nashville District Office as an Outdoor Recreation Planner.
Kennedy served as the Environmental Stewardship National Business Line Manager for the Corps and as a Resource Manager at Cordell Hull and J. Percy Priest Lakes. She was a biologist in the Planning Branch, Chief of the Regulatory Branch and currently serves on the Tennessee State Natural Areas Committee.
Kennedy earned a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Southern Illinois University.
