Sequoyah Employees Spread Holiday Spirit
December 16, 2005
SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. – Employees at TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant will provide more than $17,000 in food and gifts for 49 deserving families this holiday season.
Each year, Sequoyah employees provide holiday dinners and Christmas presents to families selected by the Daisy Head Start Center, which serves area families. Plant employees also hosted a party for about 170 children Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Daisy Head Start Center. Each child at the party received a toy and had a holiday picture made.
The Sequoyah Community Spirit Fund, which is supported by management and union employees, also join in the holiday assistance effort by helping families who request help or who are referred to the plant by various schools and organizations. The organization has been helping families during the holidays for the past 15 years.
“Employees at Sequoyah are among the most generous individuals that I have ever known,” said Sequoyah Vice President Randy Douet. “Each year, our employees work together to make the holiday season brighter for those in our community who are less fortunate by providing them with meals, clothing and gifts. When you see the smiling faces of the children receiving their gifts, you know you have made a difference and that really puts you in holiday spirit.”
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self- financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
