TVA Matches Employee, Retiree Contributions to Katrina Relief Effort
October 28, 2005
TVA Chairman Bill Baxter presents a check for $241,072 to Knoxville Area American Red Cross Executive Director Boyd Romines to be used to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. TVA matched donations by employees and retirees to Katrina relief efforts, resulting in a total cash contribution of more than $480,000. TVA’s 100-percent matching contribution will be divided among 10 Red Cross chapters throughout the Tennessee Valley for use in helping people displaced by the hurricane. Employees and retirees selected a variety of charitable agencies involved in the Katrina relief effort to receive their donations. TVA also donated supplies, water and materials and sent several line crews who worked hundreds of hours helping restore power.
