TVA Asks for Public Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

December 6, 2005

CENTRE, Ala. – To improve reliability and provide power for future homes, schools and businesses, TVA plans to improve its transmission system in Cherokee County and will seek public input on proposed improvements at an open house Thursday, Dec. 8.

The transmission system improvements include a new substation, to be located in an industrial area of Leesburg on Hopkins Road, and a new double-circuit 161-kilovolt transmission line. The Coosa River substation would be powered by a short line extending from TVA’s Collinsville-Leesburg transmission line located south of the substation. The substation would also connect to the Gaylesville-East Centre transmission line, located approximately four miles northeast of the substation site.

TVA will present project alternatives at the open house to be held from 3 - 7 p.m. CST at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre, Ala.

Detailed maps showing the proposed location of the substation and alternative routes for the power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map and more information is available.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Chris Austin, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s website. The deadline for comments is Jan. 31, 2006.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
