TVA To Hold Open House on Proposed Power LineNovember 29, 2004 LAKE, Miss. – TVA will hold an open house to hear public comments on a proposed new power line in Scott County. The transmission line would connect TVA’s system with the Southern Mississippi Electric Power Authority power system and would help TVA maintain reliability in that area by providing a source of backup power. The open house will be held from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Lake Middle School, 1770 East Scott Road. The proposed power system improvements include about six miles of new 161-kilovolt transmission line extending from Central Electric Power Association’s Five-Points Substation, northwest of Lake, to SMEPA’s existing transmission line, southwest of Lake. In addition, TVA plans to rebuild a portion of SMEPA’s existing 69-kilovolt transmission line between Lake and the Homewood Substation, south of Forest, Miss. The new structures would support both the existing 69-kilovolt line and a new 161-kilovolt line. The line would extend from where the 161-kilovolt line from Five-Points Substation intersects the existing 69-kilovolt line for approximately 11 miles to the Homewood Substation. Detailed maps showing alternative routes will be available at the open house. TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss concerns and receive comments on the proposals. The maps, plus additional information, are available here.
