TVA,
Boy Scouts Open Hiking Trail at Tellico Reservoir
Oct. 3, 2003
LENOIR CITY,
Tenn. — TVA’s Little Tennessee Watershed Team and the
Boy Scouts of America Troop 354 of Lenoir City will open a new hiking
trail at TVA’s Tellico Dam reservation.
The first loop
of the Tellico Reservation Hall Bend Trail will be officially opened
for public use at a ceremony in the trailhead parking lot on
Tellico Parkway beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.
TVA and the Boy
Scouts began working on the trail in February 2002 to enhance recreation
opportunities on the Tellico Dam reservation.
TVA assisted the Boy
Scouts in trail design and vegetation management and also built a parking
area at the trailhead.
Members of Troop
354 worked many hours last year and this summer to complete the first
loop. The Boy Scouts will help maintain the trail regularly by
removing litter and trash, pruning vegetation, and installing benches and
lake access
points.
The trail offers
great views of the reservoir and will allow access to an interesting
natural habitat. When complete, the trail will stretch four
to
five miles.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power
producer and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large
industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers
in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River
and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood
control, navigation, water quality and recreation.
