Visitor Center to Close During Work at Raccoon Mountain
July 2, 2014
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – This will be the last weekend for a while to enjoy the popular visitor center atop the Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant overlooking the Tennessee River Gorge.
The Tennessee Valley Authority will be performing equipment improvements on the hydroelectric power station that will require a temporary closure of the visitor center beginning Monday, July 7. The closure for public safety reasons will be for an undetermined period.
Raccoon Mountain’s visitor center welcomes more than 10,000 people every year.
The Laurel Point Recreation Area on the Raccoon Mountain reservation will remain open. Volunteers will be on hand again this summer at Laurel Point to answer visitors’ questions about riding trails, a TVA history walking trail and other activities.
