Fontana Dam Road Access Restricted Beginning Monday, Aug. 4

Aug. 1, 2014

FONTANA, N.C. – Motorists should be aware of maintenance activities that will require the interment traffic restrictions on Fontana Dam Road over the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Fontana Dam beginning on Monday, Aug. 4.

No vehicle traffic will be allowed from Monday through Thursday each week until the work is completed, now scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28. Vehicle access will continue on weekends during the period, from Friday morning through Sunday night.

A safe path across the dam for pedestrians, including hikers on the Appalachian Trail, will be maintained during the entire project. The closure is necessary to allow TVA crews to safely perform routine maintenance on the dam.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
