Through a collaboration of federal, state and local agencies, the Elk River Watershed Buffer Initiative seeks to promote water quality and biodiversity enhancements along the Elk River and its tributaries. Landowners will be offered the opportunity to receive incentives to plant grasses and trees to stabilize the stream bank, reduce sedimentation and improve aquatic habitat, ensuring the long-term health of the Elk River system.
