June 23, 2006

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The 2005 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign has been recognized for having one of the highest percentage increases for campaigns raising more than $1 million.

A national CFC award was presented at the White House to local campaign leaders Gail Satterfield, manager of the 2005 campaign, and Steve Saunders, chair of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee.

The Greater Chattanooga CFC, spanning across East Tennessee and parts of Alabama and Georgia, raised more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies in 2005, a 25.5-percent increase over the previous year.

“The 2005 CFC was special in so many ways. Thanks to the outstanding attitude, leadership and generosity of the federal employees throughout the 20 counties around Chattanooga, the 2005 campaign was recognized as one of the top campaigns in the entire nation,” said Tim Ponseti, TVA’s general manager of resource planning and system forecasting and chair of the 2005 Campaign.

Chattanooga area federal employees have also been recognized several times in recent years for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations. Funds raised through 298 campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies.

Since 1987, the Chattanooga-area campaign gifts have totaled more than $22 million. The Greater Area Chattanooga covers 20 counties in East Tennessee, north Georgia and northeast Alabama.
