About TVA Technology Innovation

To be a national leader in technology innovation — this is part of TVA’s mission under the TVA Act and an important element in achieving our vision of leadership in low-cost, cleaner electricity.

TVA is committed to advancing knowledge in the electric utility industry by working in partnership with others and sharing results through reporting, technology transfer and educational outreach.

TVA has identified three signature technologies for special emphasis.  These are small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), energy utilization (including energy efficiency, demand response and electric vehicle transportation infrastructure) and grid modernization.

In addition, TVA’s research activities consider issues critical to a cleaner energy economy, including air and water quality, clean energy and integration, and long-term operations of generating assets.

Investments in TVA’s research portfolio are highly leveraged through partnership and collaboration with the Electric Power Research Institute, the U.S. Department of Energy, national labs, federal agencies, academic institutions, the Center for Energy Advancements through Technological Innovation (CEATI), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and other research consortiums.

TVA also serves as a technology advisor for TVA’s local power companies and directly served customers.
