University of Tennessee Golf Practice Facility and Greenway
Knox County, Tennessee
In March, 2008, TVA issued a final environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for a greenway and golf practice facility proposed by the University of Tennessee, Knox County, and the City of Knoxville. These facilities would be located on Fort Loudoun Reservoir and require appropriate land use licenses from TVA and approval under Section 26a of the TVA Act. Included in this proposed action was the stabilization of approximately 9,000 feet of shoreline with rock riprap. Approximately 3,000 feet of shoreline has been stabilized. However, shallow water and the presence of wide mudflats along the shoreline has made additional placement of riprap from barges infeasible. Thus, the proposal has been altered to accommodate the placement of riprap along approximately 6,000 feet of shoreline using equipment on the landward side of the shoreline.
TVA has considered the potential environmental effects of the new proposal and has issued a revised FONSI.
