Mine Plan Approval for Illinois Coal Mineral Rights Lease, Sugar Camp Mine No. 1
Hamilton County, Illinois
Sugar Camp Energy LLC has requested TVA approval of proposed underground mining of coal on an 880.3-acre lease area owned by TVA. This action would result in the expansion the Sugar Camp Energy LLC Mine No. 1 (Illinois Mine Permit No. 382). Mine No. 1 and the Illinois mine permit cover a 12,000-acre area in Hamilton and Franklin counties, Illinois. TVA owns the coal in the Hamilton County portion of the mine, and in 2011 approved Sugar Camp Energy’s plans to mine coal from an approximately 2,600-acre portion of the TVA holdings.
TVA prepared a final environmental assessment regarding the approval of Sugar Camp Energy’s 2011 mining plans and issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) on May 17, 2011. TVA’s approval of the revised mining proposal is the subject of a supplemental environmental assessment, and a FONSI issued by TVA on May 31, 2013.
