How to Get a Job at TVA
Interested in working at TVA? Here’s a step-by-step guide for applying.
STEP 1: You must apply online..
You must apply for positions at TVA electronically through our Web site. We cannot accept applications by mail, fax, or e-mail.
STEP 2: Search for jobs of interest.
Click on the “See Our Jobs” link on the left side of the TVA Employment homepage. To view all available jobs, leave all the fields blank and click “Search.” If you are only interested in certain types of jobs or jobs in specific locations, select the appropriate search criteria and then click “Search.”
Note: If you have a smart phone (a Droids, Iphones, or Ipads, for example), you can view TVA job openings using our mobile site at www.tvacareers.com.
STEP 3: Create an account.
If you find a job in which you are interested and think you meet the eligibility criteria, the next step is to create an online account. All you will need to create an account is an e-mail address and password. Creating an account will allow you to submit a resume and cover letter, save job descriptions of interest, and view your application history.
Note: You must have an e-mail account to apply for a position at TVA. We will use e-mail to let you know we have received your application and provide other information. If you do not have access to e-mail, there are several free e-mail services available on the Internet. You can go to any search engine (e.g., Yahoo, Google, or Hotmail) and type “free e-mail” to get a listing of the Web sites that provide this service.
STEP 4: Add your resume.
After you’ve created an account, you will see an “Add Resume” link on the left-side of the confirmation page. Click on this link and either copy your resume and cover letter from existing text files into the appropriate blocks or click on the “Create your resume online” link.
If you do not already have a properly formatted resume, we recommend that you use our online resume builder. It will generate a chronologically formatted resume, which is preferred to a functional format.
If you choose to create your resume online, be sure to fill in all of the required fields, which are marked by a red asterisk. You will need to provide contact information and information about your work experience and your education and skills. You also will need to identify your county of permanent residence, indicate whether you have ever been convicted of an offense against the law, provide citizenship information, and create a cover letter.
When you have provided all of the required information, click “Continue” and then verify and save your resume information on the next screen.
You will receive a confirmation by e-mail when you have successfully created an account and input your resume.
Note: You will be able to tailor your resume online at any time to focus on education, skills and work experience that are most appropriate for the job for which you are applying. You will want to include information on all your skills that are relevant to the position to help differentiate you from the vast number of candidates who apply for TVA positions. TVA only accepts resumes for current and anticipated job openings.
STEP 5: E-mail any required documents to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the job you are applying for requires you to submit transcripts, certificates, work authorization forms, or other documents, e-mail them to email@example.com. Be sure to indicate the job number of the position (for example, 1000001476) in the subject line of your e-mail.
Only if you are unable to e-mail the documents, you may mail them to TVA Staffing and Recruiting, 1101 Market Street, LP 3A, Chattanooga, TN 37402. Required documents must be received by the closing date of the position to be considered. Non-receipt of required documentation may result in disqualification of your application.
We recommend that you hold letters of recommendations, work samples, and other supporting information and make them available to the interview panel if you are contacted to come for an interview.
STEP 6: Wait to hear from us.
You will receive a confirmation by e-mail when you have successfully applied for a position.
If your application shows that you meet the eligibility criteria, it will be sent to the hiring manager for interview consideration. We will contact you if you are selected for an interview. If you are applying for a craft training program or apprenticeship, you will be invited to take a pre-qualifying test.
The time frame for this process varies depending on the type of job but can take several months. The recruiting and selection process for craft training and apprenticeships takes about six months.
Once a position is filled, a final notification is issued to candidates that are not selected.
STEP 7: Keep checking TVA’s Employment Web site.
New positions are posted as they become available, usually several times a week. To ensure you don’t miss new postings, we suggest you create an account and establish a job search agent. It will notify you when TVA posts a position that matches the search criteria you specify.
Note: Job search agents must be renewed every 30 days. You will need to apply on positions of interest identified using a job search agent.
