8 Days of Construction
Saturdays and Sundays - March 15 – April 13, 2008
(except Easter weekend)

Weekend One – March 15/16- Need 25 volunteers per day 70% need muscle to lift heavy wall panels and/or ability to walk on walls and install roof sheathing. Some light work for about 6 people.
DAY ONE – Saturday Install floor system if applicable. Chalk out walls Erect wall panels Install house wrap Square house Install windows Top plate house Install roof trusses Build and install fly rafters Install sub-fascia Start roof sheathing Prime fascia and exterior trim Clean up site	DAY TWO – Sunday Finish roof sheathing Install fascia Install exterior doors Install truss bracing Build and install bird boxes Clean up site Some of these activities may move to Saturday if the build progresses quickly
Weekend Two – March 29/30- Need 25 volunteers per day 50% work at ground level, 30% on ladders with siding high on the house, and 20% should be semi-skilled to do outside carpentry, fascia, bird boxes and back deck.
DAY THREE – Saturday Clean house Install siding – start at back of house Caulk top & bottom plates and panel joints (Int.) Install insulation Install baffle boards, Deadwood Install soffit (Ext) Install blocking for drywall, cabinets, shelving Clean up site	DAY FOUR – Sunday Finish siding Finish soffit Caulk and paint fascia [Build deck if rear of house is finished] Clean up site
Weekend Three – April 5/6 - Need 25 volunteers per day 70% semi-skilled to install doors, trim, cabinets and front porch rail; 30% unskilled for cleanup, painting, etc.
DAY FIVE – Saturday Install interior doors, trim and baseboards Set and fill nail hole Caulk trim Install kitchen cabinets and countertops Install front porch rail Interior paint – one prime and one finish coat Finish siding and soffit, ¼ round [Finish deck] Clean up site	DAY SIX – Sunday Finish interior paint Paint exterior trim, caulk and silicone Distribute water heater, lights, plumbing fixtures Install bathroom vanities Finish front porch rail [Finish deck] Finish siding and soffit Clean up site
Weekend Four – April 12/13 – Need 25 volunteers per day. Some heavy lifters to dig holes and do landscaping. The rest will install mirrors, towel bars, paper holders, do final cleanup and punch out.
DAY SEVEN – Saturday Start landscaping Install towel bars, mirrors, paper rollers, door knobs, and door stops Build and install mailbox Install closet shelving Install door hardware Clean up site Wash and vacuum, clean fixtures and windows	DAY EIGHT - Sunday Punch out interior Finish Landscaping Clean up house Clean up site Dedication is at 1 p.m.

Schedule Notes

No work will occur Easter weekend (March 22/23).

HFH-N’s task-based system will increase productivity and assist volunteers at the build site. Please select the day(s) that best match your skills based on the criteria above.

HFH-N is requesting volunteers arrive at 6:15 a.m. and work from 7 to 4:30 on their scheduled day(s). No split shifts or half days are available.

Age Guidelines – No one under 16 year of age. Volunteers should be prepared to show proof of age. Youth 16 or 17 years old may volunteer (on weekends 3 or 4) if accompanied by an adult all day (ration 1 adult to 5 teens). 16 or 17 year olds may not climb on the roof or use ladders. Parent/legal guardian must sign release form.

Dedication Day is Sunday, April 13th, at 1 p.m. CST. All houses built this spring will be dedicated on this day. Parking on this day will also be off-site.
